2 Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of information when you use MealBestie:

Account Information

• Full name
• Email address
• Password (encrypted using RSA encryption before being transmitted — we never store your plaintext password)

Food & Nutrition Data

• Foods you log, including name, description, portion size, and nutritional values (calories, protein, carbohydrates, fat)
• Food history records with timestamps of when meals were eaten
• Daily nutritional goals you configure (calorie and macro targets)

Location Information

• Approximate (coarse) location — used solely to provide locally relevant food recommendations

Preferences

• Language preference
• Dietary preferences (e.g., healthy-only filter)

Authentication Tokens

• Access tokens and refresh tokens — stored securely on your device using encrypted storage and never exposed to third parties

3 How We Use Your Information

We use your information exclusively to provide and improve the MealBestie service:

• Account To create and manage your account and authenticate your identity
• Food Tracking To record, display, and manage your daily food log and nutritional history
• AI Recommendations To generate personalized meal recommendations based on your location, language, and dietary preferences
• Nutritional Goals To track and visualize your progress toward your daily calorie and macro targets
• Security To protect your account through encrypted communication and secure token management

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.

4 Third-Party Services

MealBestie uses the following external service:

Google Gemini AI

Our backend server uses Google's Gemini AI model to power meal recommendations and automated food analysis. When you request a recommendation or use the AI food analysis feature, relevant data (such as food name, portion, location, and language preference) is sent from our servers to Google's AI infrastructure for processing.

No other third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs are used in MealBestie.

5 Data Storage & Security

All data is transmitted over HTTPS to our secure backend server.

• Passwords are RSA-encrypted on your device before being sent to the server
• Authentication tokens are stored using encrypted, platform-specific secure storage on your device
• A portion of your food data is also cached locally on your device in an encrypted local database for offline access

While we take reasonable technical measures to protect your data, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. We encourage you to use a strong, unique password for your account.

6 Location Data

MealBestie requests approximate (coarse) location permission on your device.

• Location is used solely to generate locally relevant food recommendations (e.g., suggesting foods common in your region)
• Your location is not continuously tracked or stored persistently — it is used only at the time of a recommendation request
• You can choose to deny location permission; the app will function normally but recommendations may be less regionally specific

7 Data Retention & Deletion

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us at bivanoapps@gmail.com.

Upon receiving a verified deletion request, we will remove your personal data from our servers within a reasonable timeframe. Locally cached data on your device can be cleared by uninstalling the app.

8 Children's Privacy

MealBestie is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, please contact us at bivanoapps@gmail.com and we will promptly delete that information.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of MealBestie after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
